Around 2070, war and ecological collapse pushed Earth toward the end of civilization. To keep humanity alive, a group of survivors secretly launched The Embarkation Plan. Its aim was desperate: build the Embarkation Vessel and leave the Solar System through still-immature wormhole technology. The odds were almost hopeless, but the plan succeeded. The vessel crossed the wormhole and, after years of flight, reached an unfamiliar planet. It crashed on landing; about ten thousand survived, rescued by the planet's Sylphs. Humanity named this world The Star of Embarkation. The five leaders turned a nearly impossible escape into reality, earning immense prestige among the first survivors. Together, they came to be called — The Forerunners.

Dyson was the plan's chief engineer, leading the vessel's design, coordination, and hardware architecture. He fused Seth's core technology with Linnea's life-support system, turning separate fields into one finished work of engineering — the Embarkation Vessel. He demanded uncompromising quality in design and construction, yet remained warm, lively, and able to ease the pressure of long construction with humor. His precision and bright presence made him one of the plan's most charismatic leaders.

Seth was the plan's core physicist, leading key research and experimental wormhole development. After the vessel was built, he remained in charge of theory, route calculation, and navigation. Calm and terse, he trusted calculation, evidence, and logic. Once convinced, he rarely changed course. That stubbornness carried him through years of difficult research, and made him unyielding in disagreement. The wormhole was the technology the plan depended on; in time, it became the plan's symbol and even its emblem. Most ordinary members could not truly understand Seth's work and kept their distance, but everyone knew humanity's departure from the Solar System was tied to this silent physicist.

Before the Embarkation Vessel was finished, it had already become something worth going to war over on a dying Earth. The engineers faced more than technical problems: warlords, panic, resource conflict, and a social order nearing collapse. Lucian handled all of it.

Lucian was the plan's politician. During construction, he led military forces against warlords trying to seize the vessel, while keeping the construction system running through war, scarcity, and prolonged psychological strain. After departure, he continued to manage society aboard the ship. Confident and responsible, he organized people, set clear goals, and made quick decisions in crisis. He gave people a sense of security the apocalypse had never offered. The trust he earned later became an important foundation of his political power.

Linnea was the plan's biologist, leading medicine, life support, and ecological cycle design. The Embarkation Vessel could not carry unlimited air, water, or food; the endurance of its ecology determined how long it could fly. Linnea was one of the few technical leaders whose work touched life itself. She had deep specialist training, but no technocrat's manner. Even at the plan's most intense moments, she remained gentle and open.

The plan needed resources far beyond an ordinary spacecraft. By then, Earth's economic, industrial, and supply systems were collapsing in war. Weapons, equipment, materials, and daily supplies still had to arrive; without them, even the best design stayed on paper. Hilda held this shrinking material foundation together.

Hilda was the plan's economist, securing weapons, materials, and supplies for construction, then managing production and allocation during the voyage. Pragmatic and independent, she had a strong instinct for exploration. She read situations well and knew when to advance or retreat among competing interests. Her tact let her move among shifting parties; her judgment kept her from trusting any one method, channel, or relationship forever. Ordinary members understood her less directly than Lucian, and her work had no clear symbol like Dyson's ship. More often, Hilda's role was hidden in a simple fact: day after day, the plan still secured materials, kept production alive, and continued construction. Whether her supplies kept arriving directly determined whether the Embarkation Vessel could continue to be built.

Only with every one of these links could the Embarkation Vessel be built, leave Earth, complete its long voyage, and let humanity rebuild society in another world. Without any one of them, none of it could have happened. To the first survivors, these names came from living memory: they had carried humanity from the end of an old civilization to the beginning of a new one. This is the true origin of the name "Forerunners."
